On a break
Yep, its been a while since I dropped by this space. The year has been okay so far, touch wood. Here's a round up. The work weeks just whooshed by. As expected, lots of work, lots of finishing up before I took off on my little vacation. Yes, I'm finally on my much awaited break. Managed to catch up with some good friends before I left, shopped around like a maniac and packed in what felt like the biggest rush hour of my life. As always, the flight was delayed. So there was a lot of nothing-to-do-but-lounge-around-the-airport time, which was not so bad, given I managed to do some last minute shopping and caught that much needed mocha without which I wouldn't last the long day that was ahead of me. As always my seat was surrounded with boooring passengers topped up with annoying babies who refused to stop crying all through the flight. bah. The sleeplessness and crying babies had left me quite cranky, so I did not take so kindly to a long wait at the baggage counter. Luckily they did not misplace my baggage, and I walked out soon after.
The family was met, that was nice. Then was a long drive along crowded concrete roads jammed with unruly traffic. Then some more family was met. Not bad so far. It is kinda overwhelming when you see so many people coming from distances just to meet you. even if you're all cranky and sleepy. even if you not particularly in such a peppy mood to be chatting with people. warm, really. Some heavy lunch and chatting followed. The gifts and chocolates were partly unwrapped, and soon we finally headed homeward.
Home gives me this warm fuzzy feeling everytime I come back. Somehow it feels as if nothing has changed, although of course so much would have changed. A relaxed couple of days, yummy home cooked food, constant nagging by the parents, some fun with the sister. Random relatives to be met, more random relatives dropping by to catch up. Silently enjoying some peace and calm staring out of the window as I sip on some warm chai. Plonking on the sofa to watch tear jerking soaps. Fighting for the TV remote to watch one crappy movie after another. Galavanting around town to catch road side junk food. Arguing with Dad over almost everything. Chatting with mom to catch up on all the gossip. Yep, that just about feels like home.
